Coronado: Where the Beach Sparkles
Look out from the shores of downtown San Diego and the ocean won't be the only thing in view. San Diego Bay is sheltered to the north by Point Loma and from the south by an island and land-connecting spit covered by a naval air station and the small city of Coronado. The walkable and bikable peninsula is home to some fascinating history, the longest open portion of the the Bay Shore Bikeway (as well as a nugget of the Pacific Coast Bicycle Route), and the longstanding Hotel del Coronado.

Laguna Beach - Art and Nature on Foot
Переглядів 5348 років тому
Laguna Beach in Southern California is a uniquely walkable community and is committed to remain so: In the midst of a lucrative real estate boom, Laguna Beach opted to retain a greenbelt instead of razing all hillsides for homes. Businesses, hardly any of which are chains, must keep the town character by having a wooden sign. A small, isolated artist colony tucked between the ocean and coastal ...

I was a student of Rod Tolley back in 2000 at Staffs Uni in England. He is a truly inspirational man and inspired me. After graduating in 2001, I decided to cycle from England to Singapore via Siberia and Mongolia, and succeeded. I learned a lot. Not only from his lectures, but also from my year-long journey of 22,000 kms. Keep up spreading the message, Rod, even if it falls on deaf ears...

I remember reading, some time ago, that if you want to lose weight and feel better, park your car about a mile from your work place. If you haven't been doing a lot of walking, my suggestion is that you park the car just a few blocks from your work place and every week, or less, increase that distance. If you work from home, a break of 15 minutes in the morning and another one in the afternoon will help you with your concentration as you work. I am not a doctor not any sort of therapist. I make these suggestions based on what I have read and done in my own life. Always talk with your doctor before starting any new exercise. President Truman used to walk every morning and his secret service detail had a difficult time keeping up with him at first.

June we’re tossing around ideas. Walk and keep track of our miles/ km and see if we can walk across our country. That’s not a for certain goal at this time

I just started walking an hour per day a couple weeks ago and I think my motivation and focus have improved. I don't include whether or not I walk the dogs, that's just extra walking, which just increases the benefit (icing on the cake). I'm doing it to lose visceral fat actually, since it's the most effort-efficient way burn fat instead of sugars, and additionally reduces cortisol, rather than increasing it like some more strenuous exercises. Also reduces risk of injury. Getting in an hour per day is flexible, I can grab 15 minutes before work, 15 minutes during lunch break, and 30 minutes after dinner, or any other combination that fits my schedule any particular day. If I accidentally overeat on dinner then I get at least an hour before going to bed which improves sleep. I plan to start adding in weight training AFTER I have lost the fat.
